Abstract

This study examined the mediating effect of career decision-making self-efficacy in the link between parental psychological control and career indecision for college students. The data collected from a total sample of 259 college students were analyzed to examine the mediated role through a structural equation model. The findings included: (a) career decision-making self-efficacy had no mediating effect on the relationship between paternal psychological control and career indecision,; (b) career decision-making self-efficacy had a complete mediating effect on the relationship between maternal psychological control and career indecision. Such results suggest that parental psychological control may play an important role in delivering effective interventions for college students¡¯ career indecision in counselling settings and that it is important to provide interventions that focus on improving career decision-making self-efficacy. The significance and limitations of this study are discussed.
